Finally Upgraded to WordPress 2.7!

I’d like to thank my awesome boyfriend for helping update my WordPress installation. I’ve been using an old old version, 2.5-something, since I had put up my blog. I never felt the need to upgrade, as the older version was working perfectly for me, and I got used to it already. But after I read an article on blog security and how updating WordPress could prevent hacker attacks, I thought it was really time to upgrade. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not vain nor paranoid, I just value my privacy. Also, I was getting tired of seeing the “Upgrade to WordPress 2.7” reminder on my dashboard. Heh.

Actually, I bugged my boyf to help update my WordPress installation for a time and then I forgot about it. In perfect timing, however, he called me this morning (a few minutes after I reached the office) and told me that he’s already updated my precious blog’s WP installation. :) I could have done the upgrading myself, but I spend most of my day, Monday to Friday, in the office where I have no access to FTP. As such, I relied on my boyfriend (who works as a web developer) for my FTP errands, such as installing plug ins and bulky media. Hehe. I usually tinker with my blog’s more technical aspect during weekends (under my boyf’s guidance of course), when I have more time and freedom to explore and screw up (not that I’d want that, haha).

Anyways, I sat down my workstation, turned my PC on, opened Firefox, and logged into my blog’s WP-admin. Wow. A fresh new modern dashboard stumbled upon me. I found it a bit 2.0-ish, and actually cute. Heh. I was excited to post up a new entry, so I clicked on Add New. To my dismay, the Visual editor won’t work! I tried editing an old post, same situation—the HTML editor was on default and frozen. I panicked for a bit, searched WordPress.org for possible causes and remedy, and found out that there were a lot who were experiencing the same thing (see an example thread here).

I called up my boyf and told him about this little problem. I also told him that I tried possible solutions but none worked, so he said he’d try to re-install it. A few minutes later, he called me up and asked me to log in to my WP-admin again to check if it’s working perfectly. I could hear the triumph in his voice when he told me that all that’s needed to be done was upgrade to WordPress 2.7 automatically. And it worked—my dashboard is working all smoothly now. Heh.

If you are planning to upgrade to WordPress 2.7, (or have already done so but are experiencing some glitches like I did), try re-installing your WP automatically. It sure worked for me. :)

i have the same problem. i tried upgrading to 2.7, i cannot get it done with the automatic update plugin. something’s wrong. i don’t want to do it again. i am afraid to mess my files. :(

too bad my bf could not help me.

Ate Cielo! Have you tried upgrading manually, via FTP? That one might work for you. :) You can also check if your plugins are working perfectly with WP 2.7.

I’d say upgrading to WP 2.7 was worth all the trouble. WP 2.7 dashboard is so much smoother. Hehe. Btw, I can have my boyf help you. Hee. :P
