A Mid-April Busy Saturday: Attending Classes in Ateneo, Food-tripping in UP, and Bonding with Chiquito at Tiendesitas

Every Saturday, I go to Katipunan to attend review classes in Ateneo. It takes up my mornings and afternoons, leaving me only the evenings to enjoy with family or friends. After the long Holy Week break, classes resumed and I was back to my Saturday student mode. Though I am still trying to adjust to waking up early on Saturday mornings, I really missed attending classes—taking down notes, participating in discussions, asking the professor some questions, and daydreaming while trying to look attentive—so I’m trying to make the most out of my Saturday classes.

Last Saturday was definitely tiring, but I had a lot of fun. I was a few minutes late for a four-hour morning class, but I didn’t miss much of the lecture. Come lunch time, a former PolSci batch mate in UP Diliman and I headed to an old haunt, Cello’s Doughnuts and Dips. I ordered three honey-glazed doughnuts and a Toblerone dip, finished off the two, and saved the third one for merienda (mid-day snack). Heh.

Right after we were dismissed in the afternoon, we went to UP to visit an old old favorite: Latasia Fusion, a vegetarian restaurant in Balara, just right outside UP grounds. I’ve been on a binge-mode all week, and Saturday wasn’t exempted, so I ordered two pieces of huge vegetarian shawarma (yum, at still 40 pesos each), and half a pack of tasty vegetarian chicharon (cracklings) for 25 pesos. If I were to make a list of things I miss about college, I would definitely include this to the list: ‘easy access to a huge selection of cheap-but-good food haunts‘. I’m a huge fan of UP ‘masa’ food: lumpiang togue (sprouted mung beans spring roll), hot monay (kneaded and risen bread) and cheese, and turon with langka (sweet rolls with banana and jack fruit). I would have added isaw (barbecued chicken intestines) and fish balls to the list, but I’m vegetarian and I’ve never tasted UP isaw. Heh.

Our next puppy? Hahahaha. :P

Armed with my food arsenal which added weight to my readings, I said goodbye to my friend and headed back to Ateneo to wait for my boyfriend with his parents to pick me up, and yay, they bought Chiquito along. We planned to go to Tiendesitas earlier that week so my boyfriend could register for the 11th Tour of the Fireflies, as well as check out some puppy stuff for our Chiquito.

Chiquito obviously afraid of the huge Alaskan malamute.

We weren’t able to register for the event as the booth was already closed, so we walked around and searched for perfect female Chis for our baby Chiquito, then had dinner. We walked around some more before we left for home and called it a night. What made that day even happier was our Chiquito’s crazy foible: getting mad at a white horse pulling a caretela following our car. See for yourself below. Ain’t he adorable? Hee.

I can’t wait for next Saturday! :)

Happyness is found in simple things: pink fonts, high heels, sweet nothings, veggie dishes, warm breezes, bright mornings, white sand beaches, and playful dogs.
