We Ran For Home—10 Kilometers Away!

This morning, I joined my boyfriend, my friend Kimi, and my office mates at Run for Home, Globe and Ayala Land’s first ever organized fun run for a cause. It was a run of many firsts for us too: it was my first time to ever join a fun run (and 10k at that!), my boyfriend’s first time to run 10 kilometers, my first time to use my new Adidas running shoes and Kimi’s first time to use her new NB running shoes (haha)!

We survived the 10k Run for Home event! :)

The day before the run, my boyfriend and I tried (tried, because we somehow failed at it), to prepare ourselves mentally and physically. The whole day Saturday, we pigged-out on carbo- and potassium-rich foods (hmm, I might have overdone this, heh). Come afternoon, we jogged at the PICC with our dog Chiquito (who ran longer and waaay faster than I did). Saturday night, we went drinking with friends to celebrate two birthdays. Actually, I didn’t have anything alcoholic, save for a strawberry Jell-O vodka shot which I couldn’t resist taking. Heh.

We slept late, around 1 am (I know, bad practice), and woke up at 5 am almost late for the event—gun start was at 5:45 am! Good thing it was Sunday morning, and we were just 10 minutes away from Boni High Street. We dressed hastily, rushed breakfast (i.e., bananas and water), then headed straight to the Fort. We got there approximately fifteen minutes to gun start for the 10K event, but we had to queue up for the baggage deposit counter to leave our bags. It was just frustrating that by the time we were able to check in our bags, the 5k and 3K events had already started! [Side note: I hope next time, the baggage deposit counter would be more efficient. I know it was our fault we were late, but the queue moved insanely slow, and it didn't help that there were a lot of people who were in line].

Yesss! Posing beneath the Bench billboard. Slums along EDSA. Super tiring! With Kimi in the middle of Buendia Av. Hehe.

We ran with the 3K runners until we reached the part where the routes separated. It was a tiring start for us, we had to run so we could catch up with the rest of the 10K runners, otherwise we’d have to settle for the 5K event and we didn’t want that. About an embarrassing half-hour later, we reached the wonderful Buendia Flyover. The chance of running at Buendia Flyover was one of the main reasons we opted to run for the 10K event. To cut the long story short, by the time we got to the route’s turn in front of Mapua, I was already so tired. My leg and thigh muscles were aching, but I wanted so badly to get to the finish line, so I went ahead and left my friend Kimi. Thankfully, I reached the finish line in one piece.

The Mean Team with mommy Yoj and Ms. Nabeth. Sen. Pia Cayetano! So tall and pretty. At the Food Bazaar after the run. My hon waiting for his quarter pounder burger. Hehe.

I don’t know my exact time yet, but I have guesstimated to be around 1 hour plus more or less 40 minutes. Not a time to brag about for a 10K run, but hey, it was my first time to ever join an organized run so I’m not complaining. What’s important was that I got to enjoy the experience, though I really hope I’ll do better in my next run. Now, how do I prepare for my next run? :)

You Are My Perfect Drug—23 Months and I’m Still Addicted (A Mush-fest)

Happy 23rd month together, hon.

I love you so much even if you just had your hair dyed blond and will have it dyed platinum blond over the weekend, and I just had my hair dyed brown. I love you even if you would sometimes confuse adjectives from adverbs and forget your past tense, and that I write and speak better English than you do (heh). I love you even if you wouldn’t gain weight though you eat more than I do, and I would gain weight eating just half the amount you normally eat.

With the blond boyf. I love him. :)

I love you even if sometimes I would need to wait for you for two hours to log out from work so we could meet up, and you wouldn’t be too apologetic about it. I love you even if our baby Chiquito is more loyal to you than to he is to me, though he sees me more days in the week than he sees you. I love you even if sometimes you wouldn’t listen to my stories though I kept repeating them to you, and you would make excuses that you were just being deep in thought.

Well, I guess what I really want to say is that I love you because you are you.

Cheers to 23 months of getting on each other’s nerves, countless verbal and emotional fights, and pointless [pseudo]intellectual debates. Thank you for 23 months of passionate love and hate, both inebriated and sober bliss, and fierce fights and steamy make ups. It’s been 23 months and still I love you. You are my perfect drug, indeed—I’m hooked.

I love you.

It’s July and We’re Still Kicking

Yes! It’s the first day of July, which means we are MORE than halfway through the year. Time really flies by fast without you knowing it, noh? It flies by even faster when you are having fun, and I certainly am having fun. I last posted a blog about a month ago, and quite a few things have changed since then. I have a lot to share but I really couldn’t think of which and where to start sharing. So share is what I’ll try to do before I change my mind and dismiss this entry as draft. Heh.

I’ll start with my job. I’m a few days shy of celebrating my second month here. Within those two short months, I’ve organized and attended quite a handful of events with my team (go Mean Team!), met a lot of nice new people (yosi group!), and learned a lot of things. Less than two weeks from now, I’ll be spending a few days with my office mates basking under the wonderful sun in Coron, Palawan for a late summer outing. This means I have a little more time to lose weight so it won’t be too embarrassing to let them see me wear bikini for the first time. Haha.

My future career will have to wait some more months, though. As expected, I didn’t pass the exam (yet), but I’m not losing hope. I still have time to work on it. What I really need to do now is prepare myself mentally by enrolling in a Masters program, which I’m working on (by saving up that is, haha). Oh, I should also most definitely start setting my priorities straight, like what I’ve mentioned in my previous post. I’m kind of getting tired of all the issues brought about by this so-called quarter-life crisis.

As for my love life, I am having a blast with my boyfriend. We’ve gone through a major fight just recently, but I’m actually (gasp!) thankful because it strengthened our relationship even more. I know things won’t be the same again, but that’s how we learn to grow and move on, right? Now, that’s something to be thankful for. :) Another thing I should be thankful for is my relationship with my family. Surprisingly, we are all getting along quite well. I admit I was jealous of my brother at first as he gets to be sent to Law school without actually getting a job, but I realized, sibling rivalry is so boring and petty. What I’m saying is, no more drama and all that growing up shit. I know, I should be totally over those things (at my age), but with a family like mine, drama is inevitable. Or maybe it’s all just my drama, hmm?

To sum up, this half-year hasn’t really gone the way I wanted (or planned) it to, but that’s what life’s about, right? Who would want a life that all goes as planned? Well, definitely not me. Maybe reach my goals and dreams, yes, and experience some failures and setbacks along the way. Because, hell, how else would I appreciate how sweet victory is?
